Vacancies :The Orangutan Conservation Services Program (OCSP)

The Orangutan Conservation Services Program (OCSP) will work with the
Government of Indonesia, the private sector, NGOs, and community groups
arrest, reduce or possibly eliminate the threats to Orangutans as well as
address the major drivers behind those threats. The main drivers of
orangutan habitat loss and population decline include forest conversion and
logging, which are the consequences of poor land use decisions that followed
in the push toward decentralization in Indonesia. Currently OCSP is hiring
*two communications* positions to help promote the program and develop
community awareness and engagement in these important issues.

A. COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH MANAGER

Objectives (Scope)

The Communications and Outreach Manager will build momentum, greater support
and a stronger constituency for orangutan conservation by developing
messages, using the most appropriate media. These messages will be tailored
to increase understanding among individuals in government institutions,
conservation organizations, communities and the private sector, of support
needed to conserve Orangutan and create behavioral changes in those people
who directly threaten the conservation status of orangutan, especially land
developers
, loggers and local communities. The Communications and Outreach
Manager will help to promote the program and broaden its appeal with
industry, government and other key groups.

The Communications Manager’s responsibilities include :

In collaboration with the OCSP Senior Management Team and the Manager will:

- Develop a comprehensive communications plan for OCSP that will i)
increase the profile for orangutan and forest conservation in an Indonesian,
ii) gain political and financial support for orangutan conservation; iii)
encourage participation from a range of actors from private sector, civil
society and the government; iv) share and promote the results of the
program.
- Increase OCSP brand recognition through development of written
communications materials in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, meeting with
partner organizations including NGOs, private sector and government, and
targeted use e-newsletters, brochures and fact sheet development, email
list servers and contribution to the OCSP website and blogs;
- Lead the OCSP’s external communications efforts, including: i)
developing relations with media and serve as a media contact; ii)
coordinating printing and vendor relationships as they relate to
communications; iii) liaising with the graphic design consultant on layout
and content as well with with external designers when required; iv)
overseeing content management of the website and ensure the webmaster is
provided with information for regular updates of the site; v) supporting
event organization and management and special communications projects as
required
- Lead OCSP’s internal communications team, who will be responsible for:
i) maintaining inventory of the organization's communications materials and
update database on stories in the media related to the work of OCSP, its
partners and grantees, ii) providing updates on progress to staff and
grantee partners using email, newsletters and bulletin board; iii) maintain
a photo database of the organization.
- Actively seek out OCSP success and beneficiary stories, working in
conjunction with field and Jakarta-based staff, the OCSP Monitoring and
Evaluation
Technician and grantees and partners, and communicate these to
local, national, and international media, USAID and other interested
parties.
- Coordinate regularly with the OCSP technical team and assist in by
compiling information for regularly quarterly and progress reporting,
work plans and other deliverables to USAID
- Liaise and facilitate linkages between and among partner organizations
and provide targeted technical support or training in public outreach and
communication.
- Oversee work of Outreach Coordinator and provide assistance to Sumatra
and Kalimantan outreach specialists.
- Carry out other activities to support the OCSP mission as requested by
the Chief of Party.

Qualifications :

A university degree, in Communication or relevant experience; 7-10 years of
related work required. The position is located in Jakarta.


B. COMMUNICATIONS ADVISOR

Objectives (Scope)

The Communications Advisor will work closely with the OCSP Communications
and Outreach Manager to provide greater support and a stronger constituency
for orangutan conservation by developing messages, using the most
appropriate media, tailoring important messages to increase public
awareness of organizations of the need to support Orangutan conservation and
create behavioral changes in institutions who directly threaten the future
of orangutans. **


The Communications Advisor's responsibilities include :

In collaboration with the OCSP Communications Manager and Senior Management
Team
:

· Maintain photo database and update database on stories in the media
related to the work of OCSP, its partners and grantees

· Provide updates on progress to staff and grantee partners using email,
newsletters and bulletin board and facilitate and manage links between
partner organizations

· Increase OCSP brand recognition through development of written
communications materials in both English and Bahasa Indonesia,

· Coordinate printing and vendor relationships as they relate to
communications and work with the graphic design consultant on layout and
content as well with external designers when required

· Oversee content management of the website and ensure the webmaster is
provided with information for regular updates of the site;

· Supporting event organization and management and special communications
projects as required

· Coordinate regularly with the OCSP technical team and with
communications staff in all the OCSP offices and provide contributions to reports, workplans and deliverables.


Qualifications:

A university degree, in Communication or relevant experience; 3-5 years of
related work required. The position is located in Jakarta.

Fluency in Bahasa Indonesian required; competence in English preferred.
