Lowongan NGO - Information Officer & Reading Program Manager - Jakarta Office

An NGO-managed education program operating in seven provinces in Indonesia seeks qualified candidates for position of Information Officer and Reading Program Manager. This position will be based in Jakarta Office.

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Information Officer

Position Description:
The Information Officer position will be split between a communications function and a public-private alliance function. The communications function will be responsible for compiling project bi-weekly reports and developing articles and fact sheets that showcase project accomplishments and best practices in both Bahasa v Indonesia and English. The Information Officer will occasionally travel to collect information and data from provinces, districts and schools. The Information Officer will be responsible for translating project communications products from Bahasa Indonesia to English and English to Bahasa Indonesia. The public-private alliance (PPA) function will focus on the management and oversight of the Intel Teach Alliance rollout in each province and the possible expansion of the alliance to include a pre-service activity with partner universities and a pilot of the Intel Essentials curriculum. The Information Officer reports to the Senior
Program Manager and works closely with the Communications Officer, home office PPA Specialist and other related key technical staff.

Job Qualifications:
- Possess a university degree in mass communication, journalism, international relations or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum
of five years of relevant professional experience required including a strong background in communications, editing and presentation, and use of computer software pertinent to those skills
- Established good relationships/ networking with government authorities, private sector and the media
- Demonstrated experience designing, producing and editing reports, presentations and outreach materials using professional desktop publishing and PowerPoint presentation software
- Excellent awareness of public issues
- Experience researching, writing, editing, and publishing press releases, quarterly and annual reports and other public documentation

Skills:
- Demonstrated organizational and logistical abilities. Must be able to plan, organize, and use time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability and desire to work effectively both as a team member and individually
- Fluency in both English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Computer and ICT literate

2. Reading Program Manager

Position Description:
The Reading Program Manager (RPM) will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the project Classroom Reading Program. Together with an International Reading Specialist, the RPM will design and implement professional development activities for project field staff and a program of training and onsite teacher mentoring for Grade 1-3 teachers involved in project reading activities in over 1,000 schools across seven provinces. The RPM will liaise closely with the Reading Program Coordinators in the six provincial offices, providing technical support and guidance. The RPM will also work closely with grants and procurement teams, providing assistance related to the development and review of grants applications and procurement of non-text book reading materials. The Reading Program Manager is based in the Jakarta office with regular travel to the seven project provinces. The Reading Program Manager will report to the Senior Program Manager.

Job Qualifications
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in a field related to reading instruction/ language acquisition or education, or a relevant combination of professional and education experience. Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience including a strong background in primary education (early primary strongly preferred)
- Direct experience in designing and implementing teacher training activities related to language instruction, reading and writing
- Two to five years of experience in a teacher support position such as pre-service teacher education, in-service teacher development in the field of language acquisition and/or reading and writing in lower primary preferred
- Demonstrated ability to provide both English to Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Indonesia to English translation

Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of language acquisition, second language instruction, and the teaching of reading and writing in lower primary learners
- Knowledge and understanding of children’s literature and ideally Indonesian folk literature
- Ability to review and assess appropriate children’s literature for use in lower primary classrooms
- Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to teachers and teacher support providers by using a variety of adult teaching strategies including problem solving, demonstration, and mentoring.
- Demonstrated organizational and logistical abilities. Must be able to plan, organize, and use time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability and desire to work effectively both as a team member and individually
- Self-motivated, ability to take initiative
- Fluency in both English and Bahasa Indonesia
- Computer literate, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
